Stephen is licensed to practice in the State of California and is a San Francisco Bay Area native. He earned a J.D. at Santa Clara University School of Law and an LL.M. at Peking University Law School.
Before forming Lou Lawyers, Stephen practiced law in multiple industries and various areas of practice, starting in 2002 with estate planning and real estate law. In 2006, Stephen resided in Beijing, China for seven years and worked at King & Wood Mallesons (金杜律师事务所), China's largest law firm. There, Stephen served as foreign legal counsel representing both Chinese state-owned enterprises (SOE) in their mergers and acquisitions transactions outside of China as well as foreign (non-Chinese) clients with their investments in China.
Stephen and his growing family had an opportunity to move to Houston, Texas where Stephen practiced at a leading immigration firm focusing on employment- and investment-based immigration. Stephen also served as general corporate counsel to a Houston-based tech start-up, advising on all aspects of corporate law.
Most recently, Stephen was legal counsel for a San Francisco-based bank and advised on matters of banking, compliance, and corporate governance.
Stephen is a Christian and enjoys serving and worshiping at his church. He and his wife welcomed their third baby daughter to the family in February 2018.
